Denison Brain Bee Founder, Julianne McCall
On Saturday February 4th 2006, Denison University held its first Brain Bee. The event was organized by Denison student Julianne McCall. At that time, Julianne was a Denison senior completing her Bachelor of Science degree as an individually designed major (IDM) in Neuroscience. Julianne had participated in the The Society for Neuroscience's annual Brain Bee while in high school, winning first-place in the Northeast Ohio Competition and third-place in the International Competition. Julianne's founding of the Brain Bee at Denison earned her special recognition by Denison's chapter of Sigma Xi (The International Scientific Research Society) for "outstanding contributions to the public education of science" in 2006. In that same year, Julianne earned Denison's Distinguished Leader Award, Denison's Presidential Medal with a degree in , and gave the Senior Class Address at Denison's 2006 graduation ceremony. After graduating from Denison University Neuroscience, Julianne embarked on a Fulbright Scholarship to study Neuroscience at Lund University in Sweden.
