B.F.A. Studio Art Program Requirements
B.F.A. STUDIO ART PROGRAM
Required Courses-
A total of SEVENTEEN courses must be taken as follows:
- Twelve courses in Studio:
One to be taken as soon as Studio Art Major is declared:
_____ Art 110 / 170 (Drawing I Foundation)
One course must be taken in a three-dimensional area as soon as possible after the major is declared
Ten other courses in Studio:
Courses must be chosen from at least three distinct studio areas:
(Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Photography)
At least two courses must be taken at the 300-level.

- Three courses in Art History:
One to be taken as soon as Studio Art Major is declared:

Two other courses in Art History:

- Two semesters of Visual Arts Practicum:
_____ Art 401 (Visual Arts Practicum)
_____ Art 401 (Visual Arts Practicum)
Each semester of Visual Arts Practicum (4 credits each) must be taken in conjunction with either a 300-level studio course or an independent study in area of concentration. (Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Photography)
General Education course requirements:
BFA students follow the college-wide General Education course requirements.
Students desiring a B.F.A. degree should discuss their intentions with a member of the Studio Art faculty as soon as possible. Students must submit a portfolio for review by hanging a show in the Student gallery by the second week of the second semester of their junior year.
Junior Day
All Juniors in Studio Art and Art History will make a formal 5-10 minute presentation of current work or research (along with a statement about why the work is important to them and why they have taken it in a specific direction, etc.) to the faculty and their peers as a “mini-symposium” once during their junior year.
