Criteria for Art History Transfer Credit

In order to evaluate a course for transfer credit, either for a GE A or for major/minor requirements, students MUST supply a course syllabus.

To be evaluated favorably for transfer credit as an Art History GE or major/minor credit, the course should meet the following criteria:

  1. The course should cover material and issues in an area of art history that is both as broad and in-depth as courses in the department.

  2. The course should have a clear conceptual and organizational framework.

  3. The course readings should be substantial and go beyond textbook readings; readings should incorporate current methodology and theory.

  4. The course assignments should go beyond the memorization of images to include components of analysis, research, and writing (at least 12 pages of writing).

  5. The course should meet a comparable number of hours to department courses (exclusive of field trips).
