Summer Research Internship Opportunities
Department of Pharmacology, Case School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio
The Summer Undergraduate Research Program provides 'hands on' research experience for sophomores and juniors in the area of molecular pharmacology. Although the projects will vary, each is related to a common theme - elucidation of the molecualr mechanisms underlying the interaction of chemical agents such as drugs, hormones, and neurotransmitters with biological systems.
Students spend at least 10 weeks starting at the end of May, 2005, working on a research project in a lab selected according to their interests. In addition to research, weekly seminars are presented to acquaint the students with the broad range of reseach projects in the Pharmacology Department. Current Juniors and sophomores are given preference.
Stipends of $2800 are awarded. Lodging and travel may be available. Applications completed by 2/1/2005 will be given preference.
Apply here.
Colorado State University Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - May 30-August 5
The program offers qualified undergraduates an opportunity to pursue independent research projects in biochemistry and molecular biology. Student research projects include analyses of gene expression, chromatin structure/function, characterization and manipulation of proteins, molecular archtecture of the cell, molecular biology of tumor viruses among others. The 10-week summer program places the student with a faculty mentor in whose lab the student's research project will be pursued. Students receive a stipend of $3500 plus room, board and a travel allowance. Students should have completed at a minimum, college chemistry throguh organic chemistry and one year of college biology by the end of Spring 2005. A minimum cumululative gpa of 3.0 is required. Apply here. The deadline is 2/1/2005.
Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
Fellowships also available at Mayo's sites in Scottsdale, AZ and Jacksonville, FL
The SURF program is for college students who are
currently sophomores and juniors and are seriously
considering research careers. As a SURF fellow you
will: conduct your own small research project or
work on part of an ongoing research investigation
for 10 weeks, participate in a special weekly
seminar series, and receive a fellowship award of
$4,000. Deadline is 2/1/2005 postmark. Apply here.
Summer Undergraduate Research Program 2005
Participants will conduct individual, original research projects under
the guidance of faculty sponsors in several areas of biology including
mlecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, virology,
immunology, developmental biology, neurobiology and computational
biology.
Applicants should be undergraduates from
institutions that do not have a large research program. Primary
consideration will be given to science majors who are about to enter
their senior year.
A stipend of $3,000 for the 9-week period (June 13 - August 12) will be provided. The deadline is 2/4/2005. Apply here.
Participants will conduct a research project in molecular-cellular biology, genetics, immunology, biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology or bioinformatics. In addition, students will attend classes and seminars taught by a faculty of internationally-known scientists. Research students will present their research findings at a science conference and poster session at the end of the summer. The program is for current college juniors, and runs for 10 weeks (June 6 - August 11). A stipend of $3,000 is provided, along with room, board and travel expenses. Application deadline is 2/1/2005. Apply here.
NSF Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Biochemistry
The
summer research program offers an opportunity for undergraduate students
to participate in a 10-week intensive summer research program during
the summer of 2005. Students will join a laboratory team to conduct
resarch in modern biochemistry, with wide-ranging possibilities in
structural biology, bioinformatics, molecular genetics, genomics,
enzymology or biophysics.
The program is open to undergraduate
students majoring in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, genetics or any
life science. Preference will be given to candidates who have finished
their third year and already taken organic chemistry and biochemistry
courses. However, outstanding students who have completed their second
year of college work will also be considered.
Each student will receive a stipend of $3000 for the 10-week program,
plus on-campus housing and board. In addition, a travel allowance of up
to $600 is available.
Apply here. The deadline for complete applications is 2/15/2005.
Research Experience for Undergraduates - Microbiology
Participating undergraduate students will spend nine weeks (June 6- August 5) in a biolgical sciences laboratory conducting full-time research in microbiology, microbial genetics and/or molecular biology. Students will conduct their own research project under the direction of a faculty member and work as part of a laboratory research team. Students will receive a stipend of $3200, plus housing and a meal and travel allowance.
Students majoring in the biological sciences, preferably between their junior and senior years are eleigible to apply. All application materials must be received by March 1, 2005. Apply here.
