Research
Molecular Systematics of the Ophioglossaceae (Adder's Tongue Fern Family)
- Phylogeny of Ophioglossaceae based on morphological and molecular data
- Evolutionary relationships in Botrychium s.s., the moonworts
- Ancestry of allopolyploids in Botrychium s.s. using chloroplast and nuclear markers
- ISSR variation among populations of
Sceptridium dissectum
- Genetic variation within and among North American species of
Sceptridium, the grapeferns, using ISSR markers and DNA sequences
- Evolution of vascular trace structure in Ophioglossum s.s., the adder's tongue ferns
As
a plant systematist my main research focus is the fern family
Ophioglossaceae, commonly called the adder's tongue ferns. I use both
molecular and morphological evidence to infer evolutionary patterns and
processes within the family and to establish classifications that
reflect evolutionary history. Currently my research centers on two main
species groups, Botrychium s.s. (the moonworts) and Sceptridium
(the evergreen grapeferns). In both species groups I use DNA sequencing
and/or ISSR markers to address evolutionary relationships among
species, the distribution of genetic variation within species, and the
interface between species and populations.
