Ebaugh Renovation
Renovated Ebaugh, southeast elevation
Work on the renovated Ebaugh has begun! It will take 17 months to complete, comprising two summers and this academic year. In the meantime, faculty of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry have moved their offices to Chamberlin and are holding classes/labs in Talbot, Chamberlin, and Olin. The renovated and expanded building will include four classrooms of varying sizes, six teaching labs, research space for ten faculty and instrument rooms on each floor. One of the labs has been designed explicitly for interdisciplinary and interdepartmental use. There will also be study and social spaces for students, a central atrium, and appropriate faculty and staff offices. Learning spaces in the new building will be modular, allowing a conventional lab to be reconfigured to a work-lecture lab within minutes and the same lab to be reconfigured again for group projects.
The renovation of Ebaugh Laboratories entails both a major addition (19,000 square feet) and a thorough remodeling of the existing L-shaped building. The addition will occupy the space adjacent to both existing wings, resulting in a roughly rectangular finished structure totaling 52,000 square feet.
