Facilities and Equipment
Students enrolled in Denison production classes shoot in both 16mm film and digital video formats and use both flatbed systems and Final Cut Pro to edit their projects. The Cinema Department is housed in two buildings, known informally as The Cinema Annex (122 N. Mulberry St.) and The Cinema Cottage (118 N. Mulberry St.). The Cinema Annex houses faculty and staff offices, production equipment, CINE 219 editing workbenches, and a large classroom/screening room. The Cinema Cottage houses a small classroom/screening room, five MacPro media stations (more MacPro media stations are located in the Mulberry Inter-media eXperimental (MIX) lab [pdf]), and a Steenbeck flatbed editing room.
Students enrolled in CINE 219 Elementary Cinema Production work with 16mm black and white reversal film.
CINE 310 Video Theory/Production students work in NTSC 720x480 MiniDV format and edit using Final Cut Pro.
CINE 410 Advanced Cinema Production students work with 16mm color negative film which is transferred to MiniDV format and edited on Final Cut Pro.
CINE 419 Cinema Workshop students are able to use the department's finest equipment, and can edit and finish their projects in either standard or hi-def resolution. The completed films are showcased annually in the Denison University Film Festival.
