Friday, October 21 @6PM -- Allison Cartmell Emmerson '04 (ABD, Classics and Archaeology at University of Cincinnati) will discuss her experiences as an archaeologist at Pompeii in: "Pompeii: Reading Life in a Roman City" (Location, Fellows 216).

Friday, November 11 @4PM, Higley Auditorium -- Dr. John Given (Associate Professor of Classics at East Carolina State University) will discuss his experiences producing, directing and acting in ancient comedy for the modern stage "Collaborations with the Ancients: Directing Classical Theatre" Prof. Given has published numerous articles on Greek drama and is an advocate for scholarly performance. Given will speak on the theory and practice of bringing ancient drama to the contemporary stage and will feature clips from recent student productions while discussing the challenges and rewards of bringing ancient comedy alive. He has acted in numerous ancient comedies and tragedies including, recently, Aristophanes' Birds and Women at the Thesmophoria and Euripides' Cyclops. Given starred as Catullus in the world premiere live performance of a new radio play about the life, love and poetry of Gaius Valerius Catullus.
