LUDUS and ETA SIGMA PHI

The Classics department supports and advises an organization of students who devote themselves both to the promulgation of classical studies on campus and to the pursuit of co-curricular activities related to their own enthusiasm for Classics. The LUDUS organization holds outings such as visits to art exhibits or viewings of Classically-related theater productions; past trips have included seeing "Metamorphoses" at the Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati and exploring the Vatican exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

LUDUS also sponsors at least one speaker per year to address the Denison community; past speakers have included graduate students and professors such as Shari Stocker of the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Ruth Scodel of the University of Michigan spoke in February 2005 about Classical Film and Homer.

The core membership of LUDUS comes from majors and minors as well as students of Greek and Latin. Some students are eligible to be inducted into Eta Sigma Phi, the national honors society in Classics.
