Drawn to issues concerning individual and collective well-being, Laura’s interests center on understanding the communicative constructions of personal and relational health. Guided by phenomenological philosophy as well as theories of narrative and dialogue, she observes, participates in, and examines processes of human recovery in an array of contexts. Her dissertation involved an ethnographic study of the supportive dynamics between persons collectively seeking help for workaholism. Inspired by this study, Laura is currently exploring the ethical implications inherent to particular representations, practices, and experiences of well-being.
Laura looks forward to becoming part of the Denison Community, teaching and learning with her new colleagues and students. In the fall of 2011, she will offer courses focused on narrative ethics and interpersonal communication.
