Terrence Karn's artistic life is a blend of composer, musician, percussionist, dancer and teacher. He has composed and played music for dancers in a wide variety of theatrical venues for over 30 years. His training as a dancer and musician came from the Ali Akbar College, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Children's Theater of Minneapolis, and through studies with master teachers from around the world. Terrence is a talented multi-instrumentalist, playing percussion, piano, accordian, and harmonica, to name a few.
Terrence worked as a teacher/performer with Young Audiences of Houston for over fifteen years. In 1988, Terrence became a Character Dance teacher and accompanist with the Houston Ballet Academy. Since 1998, Terrence has been the co-director and a performer with Gypsy Dance Theatre, a gypsy and folkloric dance troupe based in Houston, TX. In 1999, Terrence became the Music Director for the University of Houston Dance Department. For the past decade, Terrence has been the Bates Dance Festival Music Director for the Youth Arts Program. This past spring, Terrence created a body percussion piece for BalletMet's (Ohio's professional ballet company) Momentum Project. With Denison since 2007, Terrence has released numerous CDs with more in production.
