Bottled Water Campaign

The DPA has chosen bottled water as the focus of a two-year long campaign that began in Fall 2007. The campaign group is encouraging students to sign a pledge against purchasing the product because of its detrimental environmental and social effects. They are also urging departments to adopt a policy against the product.

It takes 18 million barrels of oil and 130 billion gallons of water to produce the bottles, very few of which end up recycled (about 13 percent). And Coca-Cola has been draining precious water in drought-prone areas of India, Australia and elsewhere for Dasani water.

The DPA is advocating the use of nalgene bottles and reusable cups because our tap water is not only the same as bottled in many cases but it’s a more ethical choice!
