Environmental Taskforce
In Fall of 2007, the Finance Committee offered a proposal to create a new Environmental Committee [pdf] within the University Council. This proposal was the direct result of a senior research project of a former Environmental Studies student, Elizabeth Zultoski ('07). Although Zultoski's senior research focused on the purchasing of carbon credits to offset the carbon dioxide emissions released through Denison's significant coal consumption, her proposal to the Finance Committee initiated a broader discussion about Denison's environmental impact.
However, after much debate the Environmental Committee proposal was amended to, instead, create an Environmental Taskforce. The amended proposal was accepted in December 2007. The Environmental Taskforce was charged with the enormous goal of creating a plan to address all matters of concern relating to environmental sustainability. This includes addressing global warming, food issues, recycling, energy and more.
Members of the Taskforce include:
- Art Chonko, Director of Facilities Services
- Seth Patton, Vice President of Finance
- Barb Burgess, Manager of Building Services
Faculty Representatives:
- Tom Schultz, Professor of Biology
- Abram Kaplan, Professor of Environmental Studies
Staff Representative:
- Chris Hardy, Building Services Assistant
