Frank "Trey" Proctor teaches courses in the history of Latin America and the Atlantic World. His research and teaching interests focus on Mexico, colonial Latin America, and Comparative Slavery.

He is currently working on the manuscript for his monograph, "Damned Notions of Liberty": Slavery, Culture, and Power in Colonial Mexico. He has also published articles in The Americas and the Hispanic American Historical Review on African slavery in Mexico. In addition, he had contributed articles to the edited volumes Black Mexico and Expanding the Diaspora: Africans to Colonial Latin America.

He joined the faculty at Denison in 2005 after teaching for two years at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. Professor Proctor earned his BA from University of California at Davis, his MA from the University of Arizona, and his PhD from Emory University.
