HNRS 129-01: Experiential Anatomy/Kinesiology: The Fine Art of Moving
Various body-work theories offer ways of reading the body through identified movement patterning. For example, Body-Mind Centering®, pioneered by Bonne Bainbridge Cohen, suggests that basic neurological patterns stack and combined to support complex movement skills. Through various approaches to learning this kind of material (including journaling personal body-centered stories, drawing evocative and descriptive images, and moving through guided developmental movement explorations), students will be introduced to the anatomy and kinesiology in their own bodies, and challenged to become more efficient movers, regardless of the specific skill-set. The course will include some field work in “movement-rich” locations: ski slopes, day care centers, golf courses, water parks, etc. Final projects will include a 10-week long evaluation of one kind of movement or another.
