Professor of Spanish and Women’s Studies, Chair of the Department of Modern Languages at Denison University. She has published extensively on Latin American women writers, Chilean literature and culture. Among her recent publications are the edition of a collection of essays on writer Diamela Eltit, Letras y proclamas. La estética literaria de Diamela Eltit (2006), and the book Passionate Subjects/Split Subjects in Twentieth Literature in Chile (Brunet, Bombal, Eltit) (2009). She has recently edited the forthcoming volume, Paisajes de Chile Actual: Arte, Cine, Narrativa, Poesía y Teatro Contemporáneo. She also has coauthored with Fernando Blanco the forthcoming book, Fronteras de la memoria: cartografías de género en artes visuales, cine y literatura en las Américas y España. Currently she is coauthoring with Fernando Blanco the book Género, sexualidad, política: El trabajo del contrato  amoroso en el discurso femenino en el discurso visual y literario del Cono Sur.

At Denison University she teaches language, Latin American culture and literature and Women's Studies courses. She has taught seminars on Latin American Film and Culture, Women's Literature and Subjectivity, Representations of the nation and youth.

She has been the director of the Denison study abroad summer program in Chile.
