By-Laws

I. Attendance shall be taken at all rehearsals and concerts. Members may be dropped from the Heisey Wind Ensemble for excessive absence, as determined by the board.

II. Regular rehearsals shall be held on Monday evenings.

III. Auditions shall be held by the Conductor, the section leader, and at least one member of the Board of Directors.

IV. The responsibilities of the Board Of Directors shall include:

A. Chair of the Board

1. Preside over board meetings.

2. Present business to the full band.

3. Appoint 3 members of the ensemble to audit Heisey Wind Ensemble financial records in January.

B. Secretary/Treasurer

1. Take notes at board meetings.

2. Manage the financial affairs of the Heisey Wind Ensemble and keep financial records.

C. Personnel Manager

1. Maintain a list of Heisey Wind Ensemble members.

2. Keep a record of attendance at rehearsals and concerts.

3. When necessary, appoint two members of the band to serve as an ad hoc committee, with the Personnel Manager as Chair, in order to recommend dismissal of a band member to the Board.

4. Insure prospective members audition within four rehearsals.

D. Publicity Coordinator

1. Promote and publicize all band activities.

2. Maintain a history of the Heisey Wind Ensemble.

3. Responsible for coordinating printing of posters.

E. Librarian

1. Maintain music library.

2. Shall be responsible for distribution of music into and from folders.

3. Hand out and collect folders at rehearsals and concerts.

4. Be responsible for transporting folders.

5. Provide program notes.

F. Property Manager

1. Set up equipment for rehearsals and concerts.

2. Be responsible for the transportation of equipment.

G. Denison Student Representative

1. Represent Denison University students interests on the board.

V. Responsibilities of the Business Manager:

A. Be the liaison with Denison University.

B. Make arrangements for concerts and rehearsals.

C. Be responsible for printing programs.

D. Shall handle all business that involves the band.

E. Be responsible for all correspondence to members.

VI. Responsibilities of the Conductor and Assistant Conductor:

A. Be responsible for musical growth.

B. Direct rehearsals and concerts.

C. Select music for rehearsal and performance.

D. Select section leaders.

VII. A copy of a proposed addition or revision to these By-Laws must be presented to a meeting of the band membership at least 30 days prior to voting on the addition or revision. A two-thirds majority of those present when the voting is held will be necessary for adoption of the addition or revision.

VIII. A quorum shall consist of over fifty percent of the voting body.

IX. The current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order shall serve as the parliamentary authority for all meetings.
