Group Lesson Schedules

Check the calendar or ask your teacher for details.

WEATHER POLICY:  If the incoming weather creates questionable driving conditions for a group day, the Suzuki program will follow these guidelines:

  • If Licking County is on Level 1 snow emergency, groups will go on as scheduled.
  • If Licking County is on Level 2 or 3 snow emergency, groups will be cancelled.
  • If groups are cancelled, a message will be posted here by 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
     

Parents and Practice Partners

Parent Class Prep, the 10 week Suzuki parent education program, begins Friday, January 27, 2012 at 6 p.m.  Parents and practice partners who are new to the Denison University Suzuki Program must take this course before their students begin lessons.  All parents and practice partners in the Denison University Suzuki Program are welcome and encouraged to take this course.  Please register by contacting Maryfrances Kirsh.

Supplies to be purchased by the parent or practice partner prior to the first class:

  • Parent Education, Book 3, by Jeanne Luedke
  • Nurtured by Love, Shinichi Suzuki
  • Ability Development from Age Zero, Shinichi Suzuki
  • Book 1 and CD for the instrument to be studied
  • Blank CD’s and 4 different ways/places where the CD may be heard
  • Notebook

The Parent Education workbook may be purchased at Jeanne Luedke's Parent Education Website.

The Suzuki materials may be purchased at Young Musicians.

The class will meet on January 27, February 3, 10, 17, and 24, March 9, 23, April 6, 13, and 20 in Burton 14.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to create a positive musical learning partnership among faculty, students, and their parents/practice partners by following the philosophical principles and educational methods developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki so that children can grow into loving and respectful individuals who will have a positive effect on their world.

Instruction for all ages

We currently offer Suzuki instruction in Cello, Flute, Piano, Violin, and Viola. Interested families are encouraged to contact Jim Van Reeth, director, and register to attend one of our Talent Education Gatherings for more information and to meet our teachers. 

Tuition Assistance Program

The Denison University Suzuki Program is very pleased to offer its Tuition Assistance Program [pdf].  Each semester, five $100 scholarships will be offered to highly dedicated families within the program.  The application and all paperwork is due April 30, 2011.

Talent Education Gathering

Those interested in more information regarding our program are invited to our Talent Education Gathering on Sunday, April 15, 2012, in the Burke Rehearsal Room, following the 3 p.m. Program Recital in Burke Recital Hall.  Faculty and staff will be on hand to discuss the Suzuki philosophy of education and the many different aspects of our program.  Students and their practice partners representing each instrument of study will be performing and discussing their roles in the Suzuki Triangle.   Please contact Jim Van Reeth, director, for more information and to reserve your spot at the meeting.

Group Class Prep

Group Class Prep begins Saturday, January 21.  Five, six and seven year old students will meet from 9:00am until 9:40am.  Three and four year old students will meet from 9:45 until 10:25.  Classes will take place in the Burke Rehearsal Room.  Email Miss Kristen at wrightk@denison.edu with questions.

Supervision of Children

Students and siblings must remain with their practice partners at all times while on campus.  Children should not be in the halls or bathrooms unattended.
