PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE April
17-18, 2009 Keynote presentation: A live taping of the Public
Radio program, “Philosophy Talk” with hosts John Perry and Ken
Taylor (both of
Stanford University) The 13th
annual Pacific University Undergraduate Philosophy Conference will be held
April 17-18, 2009 on the campus of Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon.
The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for the presentation of
philosophical work of undergraduates to their peers. Papers are required to be
of philosophical content, but there are no specific restrictions on subject
matter within the arena of philosophical discussion itself. Papers should be
approximately 3000 words (10-12 pages). Electronic submissions, including paper and abstract (Word documents),
are preferred and can be sent to: boersema@pacificu.edu Hard copy submissions are also welcome. In this case, please send two copies of paper

and suggestions for panel discussions are also welcome. Submission deadline
is February 1, 2009. Final decisions
will be made by February 28, 2009. Volunteers for paper commentators are also
welcome. Call For Papers Stance An International Undergraduate Philosophy Journal Submission Guidelines: Stance welcomes
papers concerning any philosophical topic. Current undergraduates may submit
papers between 1500 and 3500 words in length (exclusive of notes and
bibliography). Papers should avoid unnecessary technicality and strive to be
accessible to the widest possible audience without sacrificing clarity or
rigor. They are evaluated on the following criteria: depth of inquiry, quality
of research, creativity, lucidity, and originality. For more specific
guidelines see the website at http://stance.iweb.bsu.edu. Submission Procedures: • Manuscripts should be in Microsoft Word format and sent
as an attachment to stance@bsu.edu • Manuscripts should be double spaced
(including quotations, excerpts, and footnotes) • The right margin should not
be justified • To facilitate our anonymous review process, submissions are to
be prepared for blind review. Include a cover page with the author’s name,
affiliation, title, and email address. Papers, including footnotes, should have
no other identifying markers. • Footnotes should use the author-date format
found in The Chicago Manual of Style. • Please use American spellings and
punctuation, except when directly quoting a source that has followed British

An Undergraduate Philosophy Conference
1. Be a maximum of 5,000 words.
2. Combine research and original insight.
3. Include a cover sheet that includes the following information: author’s
name, mailing address (current and permanent), email address, telephone number,
college or university name, and title of submission.
4. Include a works cited page in the Chicago Manual of Style format. Please use endnotes as a supplement.
5. The title page should bear the title of the paper only; the author’s name
should not appear on the submission itself.
6. Submissions (including cover sheets) should be sent electronically,
formatted for Microsoft Word, to episteme@denison.edu.

Call for Papers
1. Each entry should be prepared for blind review and must have a title page
containing the author’s name, college or university, and year. (No other
identifier should be present within the paper).
2. All entries should be no longer than 20 pages and may include footnotes as a
supplement to the text.
3. Paper format: one inch margins, double-spaced, 12 pt font, Times New Roman,
and should adhere to an accepted style of citation.
4. All pages, except the title page, should be numbered.
5. All entries should be submitted as an electronic copy (.doc only, please) to
Sapere_aude@wooster.edu.

2009 Undergraduate Ethics Symposium--Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University
Call for Essays and Creative Writing Projects
Students may write on any ethical issue, but submissions in two areas, Biomedical Ethics and Ethics & Race, are encouraged. Students may write an argumentative essay on an ethical question or explore ethical themes through a written creative piece.

Guidelines: Essays and fiction should be submitted in Chicago Style. 3,500 word limit. Poets should submit 5-10 pieces. Playwrights should submit a 10-minute play. Screenwriters should submit a 10-page screenplay.
