Political Science Fellows

DEPARTMENTAL AND RESEARCH FELLOWS

Beginning with the Fall 1993 semester the Department of Political Science will recognize two types of Fellows:  Departmental and Research.

Our requirements for the selection of fellows were revised in Spring 2000 to come into effect beginning Fall 2000 semester.  The qualification for research fellows was not changed.

Departmental Fellows

The designation of Departmental Fellow is an honor bestowed to junior and senior Political Science majors in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.  Designation as a Departmental Fellow carries no responsibilities or obligations, however, the Department will publicly recognize Departmental Fellows in the honors convocation each spring.

At the end of each academic year the Department will designate the Departmental Fellows for the following year.

Eligibility requirements:

1.    All Departmental Fellows must be Political Science majors;

2.    Departmental Fellows must be either juniors or seniors during the year in which they are recognized as Fellows;

3.    Only students who have completed at least two courses in political science by the time Departmental Fellows are designated will be eligible;

4.    All students who meet the above criteria and who have at least a 3.2 overall GPA and a 3.4 GPA in Political Science will automatically be recognized as Departmental Fellows;

5.    Students may be recognized as Fellows in both their junior and senior years;

6.    Students need not apply for this honor.  Those designated as Departmental Fellows will be notified by the end of the academic year.

Research Fellows

The designation of Research Fellow shall be applied to students who have demonstrated high academic achievement and who are assisting a faculty member in the department with his or her research.  Research Fellows may or may not be Departmental Fellows as well.  Research Fellows have an obligation to work with the faculty member who appointed them, and they will be compensated from departmental funds.

Eligibility requirements:

1.    All Research Fellows must be Denison students (of any major) who have at least a 3.0 overall GPA;

2.    Any faculty member in the Department may designate any student meeting the above criterion as a Research Fellow at their discretion.

3.    Research Fellows may be reappointed from year to year, however, they must maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA to be reappointed.
