About the Artwork

harper_art.jpg

The images pictured on this site are panels from a mural created by Harper Leich, '04. In the spring of 2003 the women's studies office asked Harper to paint a series of portraits to be displayed in their office. The mural consists of more than seventy 18" x 18" panels featuring familiar faces of women from Denison; faculty and students alike, along with prominent women form art, music, and literature, as well as a few friends of the artist.

Harper was a studio art major with a concentration in painting and printmaking. Her work focuses entirely on portraiture, specifically light and shadow on faces and the power they have to change or mold our perceptions of the subject. The Women's Studies program wishes to thank Harper for lending her talents to this project and for all her efforts to interview and photograph each subject.
