Recreation And Intramural Activities

It is the function of the Recreation and Intramural Department to encourage active student participation in a wide range of competitive sports and recreational activities. The program opportunities include aerobic classes, intramural and club sports, as well as drop-in recreational activities.

Facilities:

Athletic, Physical Education and Recreation Center: 200 Meter Indoor track, 4 indoor tennis courts, fitness room, multi-purpose room, 4 racquetball courts, 4 squash courts, swimming pool and strength room.

Livingston Gym: 2 basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts.

Alumni Fieldhouse: 3 basketball courts, 3 volleyball courts, walk/jog track.

Outdoors:Playing fields, 12 tennis courts, outdoor track, platform tennis, 2 sand volleyball courts.

Reservations: Students, faculty, or staff who wish to reserve the facilities for a Denison activity must make a reservation two weeks in advance. Call ext. 6580 for more information.

Aerobic Classes: Aerobic classes are offered weekdays and are taught by nationally certified student instructors. Classes begin the second week of each semester in Room 252 at the Athletics, Physical Education & Recreation Center.

Intramurals: An organized Intramural program is offered for Denison students, faculty, and staff in a variety of competitive sports. The Intramural program provides competition in floor hockey, flag football, basketball, golf, volleyball, indoor soccer, tennis, sand volleyball, dodgeball and softball. The program is flexible and may offer other Intramural events depending on student interest.

Club Sports: Club teams are student-organized, and dependent on the needs and interests of the students. The following clubs provide the participants with team competition with other colleges: badminton, crew, cricket, water polo, equestrian, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, sailing, soccer, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, running and squash. Other clubs that are noncompetitive in nature include: Aikido, fencing, clay target, yoga, disc golf, dance, gymnastics, paintball, skiing, outing and rock climbing.

It is the responsibility of the participants to take necessary precautions to avoid injury to themselves and others during club sport practices, travel or competition. Club Sports Guidelines and additional information are available from the Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation Department at Ext. 6657.

Varsity Sports: Denison offers the following varsity sports to men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, diving, track (indoor and outdoor) and tennis. Women varsity sports include: field hockey, volleyball, softball, tennis, swimming, diving, track (indoor and outdoor), cross country, basketball, lacrosse, soccer and golf.
