Aspirations and benefits of the digital media lab
- creates a central facility for all fine arts departments to use in
teaching existing courses using digital media, alleviating crowded
departmental facilities,
- allows further course development for digital media in all fine arts departments,
- provides greater opportunity for faculty and students to collaborate in in both projects and courses,
- will be open to fine arts residential students for their computing needs,
- is large and flexibile with mobile appointments and soft walls to
allow student to work even while classes are using the space, as is
common in studio spaces,
- will remain open for intensive lab use at night, possibly for some courses,
- hours of operation will be maximized,
- social use of the lounge will be intensified as arts students relas and confer,
- second floor residential spaces will be used by students in digital media,
- the facility will become a point for recruiting and retaining fine arts students,
- the lab could become a space for demonstrations, workshops and studios offered by visiting artists.
