Learning Spaces
Meeting of April 18, 2002
Project updates:
The hallway lighting project on the third floor of Fellows Hall is not likely to be completed until the summer.Department/Area reportsThe study lounges in Smith and East residence halls were recently renovated with Learning Spaces support as part of a student research project. While both locations had their endtables stolen within a week of the renovation, the Smith study lounge was vandalized extensively in April and had to be closed. Attempts will be made to repair the damage and reopen the lounges in the Fall.
Renovation of the Knapp Amphitheatre was postponed until summer 2003 to allow for consideration of alternative plans for this space.
The committee discussed learning spaces in the fine arts area. Chairperson Siddall met with the chairs of the Fine Arts departments to discuss the possibilities. The chairs are interested in pursuing a jointly designed and managed technology lab/classroom. Space for such a development is a major stumbling block at this time. Further coordination with the administration is required.New projects
A final selection was made for the classroom seating project in Knapp Hall. Because final pricing is not available, it was decided that Learning Spaces funds could be used to replace seating in Fellows Hall if the costs of seating in Knapp Hall exceeded the budget. [This in fact was the case; seating in Knapp Hall will be replaced with funds from the next fiscal year.]Donya Samara announced that she will be leaving Denison and the Committee; we are all thankful for her many contributions to the work of this committee in the past two years.
