Meet a Scientist: Dr. Annabel Edwards
I was born in Rochester, NY and studied chemistry at Williams College in Massachusetts. My research experiences in college, both at Williams and in other summer programs, convinced me that I wanted to study physical chemistry in graduate school. I moved to the great Midwest and spent close to six years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Gil Nathanson’s group. At Wisconsin, my research investigated reactions at the gas-liquid interface. I then moved to Berlin, Germany for postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces and was involved in research related to the physical chemistry behind biological interfaces (such as cell membranes). At Denison, I'm focusing on a different interface in nature; my lab uses infrared spectroscopy to probe water diffusion in the waxy layer that protects plant surfaces. I live in Gahanna (between Granville and Columbus) with my husband Erik, a chemical engineer, and our dog Nutella. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and being outside, and I have started playing the viola again.
