Meet a Scientist: Dr. Joe Reczek

I first started research in the areas of Organic and Polymer chemistry as an undergraduate at Cornell University in the group of Dr. Geoffrey Coates. During summers I worked as an intern in the Organic Labs at Eastman Kodak R & D in Rochester, my hometown. Next was The University of Texas at Austin where I pursued my PhD in Organic chemistry under the tutelage of Brent L. Iverson. There my research focused on understanding the interactions between Organic molecules, especially the Self-Assembling properties of aromatic compounds. At Denison my research group investigates the synthesis and characteristics of new Organic Materials. In particular, we study self-assembling liquid-crystals with potential applications in Molecular Electronics and affordable photovoltaic Solar Cells. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you in my classes and research! I currently live in Granville and my fiancée, Julie, is finishing Medical School back in San Antonio. I enjoy playing soccer, the violin, and grilling on my patio; I'm a big fan of Netflix.
