Thursday, September 8: Noon - 1 pm: Transitioning: Tips for Academic Success at Denison

How to deal with change and transition, setting goals for the semester, how to drop or add a course or change faculty advisors, and identifying your learning style.


Monday, September 12, 4:30 -5:30 pm: Developing Critical Reading Skills

Having trouble remembering what you've read for classes?  Learn tips for determining important information when you read as well as marking and highlighting a textbook.

 

Thursday, September 22, Noon- 1 pm: Time Management

Discuss examples of time management successes and struggles in college, how to conquer procrastination, tips for prioritzing and planning ahead, an how to use personal schedule grids and planners. 

 

Thursday, September 29, Noon-1 pm: Communicating with Faculty

The secret to success at Denison is learing to work with your professors!  Learn how to approach your professors and make the most of office hours.

 

Monday, October 10, 4:30-5:30 pm: Becoming an Effective Note-taker

Learn to determine what information is important to note, what to do when professors talk quickly, and various approaches to note-taking.

 

Thursday, October 20, Noon -1 pm: Test-taking: Study Smart, Improve Memory, and Manage Anxiety

Learn how to use mnemonic devices to remember information, deal with test anxiety, and improve your study techniques and skills.

 

Thursday, November 10: 4:30-5:30 pm: Managing Stress and the Mind/Body Connection

Learn how to manage and relieve stress, consider what causes stresses in your life, identify symptoms of stress.  Learn how diet, exercise, sleep, emotions, and overall health affect your thinking.

 

Monday, December 5, Noon-1 pm: Preparing for Finals

Learn how to prepare for a cumulative final, predict exam questions, create a test preparation plan, and learn effective study skills.
