Writing at Denison

What qualifies as good writing should transfer from one discipline or major to another. A good writer should pay attention to the needs of her or his audience, to the purposes of the writing, and to the writer's own ethos, or voice. These attentions should result in writing that is clear, cohesive, and well-supported. But these qualities of good writing can take on shapes and voices that vary from discipline to discipline. What one discipline values — perhaps the use of first-person pronouns — another discipline may prohibit.

Academic Integrity

The students and faculty of Denison University and the Writing Center are committed to academic integrity and will not tolerate any violation of this principle. Academic honesty, the cornerstone of teaching and learning, lays the foundation for lifelong integrity.

Multilingual Writers

Writing is culturally specific. This specificity obviously can be seen through elements of writing like content and evidence, but it also shows up in expression, the kinds of knowledge that are valued, structure, the role of the student as a writer, style, and the purposes for writing.
