Wells Scholarship

Wells Science Scholarship

The Wells Scholarship in the Sciences is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to one outstanding Science student in each class. Candidates should present an exemplary high school record that demonstrates a sustained interest in one of the Sciences, evidence of advanced course work, and potential for significant contributions to Denison's Science Departments and/or Programs. Coursework taken in high school should include four years of mathematics and four years of science, including physics. The scholarship is renewable each year if the stipulated grade point average is maintained (higher each successive year).

Successful candidates normally will have a high school class rank in the top 5% of their graduating class and combined SAT scores of approximately 1300 or above or an ACT composite score in the range of 30 or above. Candidates must also interview with a Denison representative on campus or in their home area.

Please note! Unlike our other scholarships, students interested in being considered for the Wells must apply for the scholarship directly (see below). The same is true for Denison's Dunbar Scholarship in the Humanities. Students are not allowed to apply for both, as the intention is to award the Wells to a student who intends to major in a Science discipline.

Majors in the Division of Natural Sciences at Denison University include the following:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Geosciences
  • Mathematics
  • Physics (Astronomy)
  • Psychology
  • Individually Designed Major
