Huffman Dining Hall To Be Fully Renovated

HUFFMAN DINING HALL TO BE FULLY RENOVATED 

We're pleased to announce Huffman Dining Hall will undergo a major renovation/remodeling commencing in March as Spring Break begins. This is part of a larger effort to make significant improvements to the Denison student dining program. A number of improvements are already happening but some require facility changes. Many of the facility requirements are not obvious involving heating/cooling and ventilation, kitchen redesign, and layout changes that will permit the preparation of larger volumes of farm-fresh foods. Other changes will be more visible: moving food prep and cooking stations out into the dining room so diners will be able to see their food being prepared, made-to-order options, and generally making the dining room a more inviting space with greater variety in seating options. 

The scope of the renovation will require at least five months—more than we can accomplish during the summer months alone. By closing at Spring Break, we hope to have Huffman Dining Hall back in full operation by the start of the 2013-14 academic year. Though students living on the East Quad will have to go to Curtis for most meals, we are trying to ensure a good experience there by expanding both the hours of operation and dining spaces. Curtis West Main Lounge will be converted into a dining room after Spring Break for the period of the Huffman renovation. Though the Huffman kitchen will not be operating, we also anticipate providing a continental breakfast option in Huffman President's Dining Room on Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. We also are planning some community picnics and other dining options to reduce inconvenience and maybe even have some fun while renovation is underway. We think the improvements will be well worth the investment of time and resources, but understand this will cause a degree of disruption to the routine. 

Huffman Dining Hall will officially close for renovations at 1:00pm on Friday, March 8th, 2013. The following extended hours and additional services provided by Dining Services will begin on Monday, March 18th:

Please note: The Curtis Veggie entrance will not be used to swipe guests into the dining hall. Please swipe in with our checker located at the main entrance of the Curtis Lounge (located just off the Curtis West Lobby) during the hours of operation listed below.

Additional seating for Slayter Market will be available in the Roost (located on the 3rd floor of Slayter Union) Monday – Friday from 11:00am to 2:00pm for the remainder of the semester. 


Dining Services, along with the University, will monitor additional services and adjust offers as needed during the last 5 weeks of the semester. Picnics and other community dining events will be planned to ensure some fun while the renovation is underway.
