Academic All-America Selections from Denison

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. Michael Barnes repeats as Academic All-America

Senior sprinter Michael Barnes was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team as selected by CoSIDA.

Barnes is the 56th Academic All-America selection from Denison and the 10th Big Red athlete to win multiple certificates.

Hohl is at-large Academic All-America of the Year

Senior Kristen Hohl was named the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America of the Year for the women's At-Large program as selected by CoSIDA.

During her tenure in Granville, the four-time national qualifier won four national titles, recorded 22 All-American swims and has captured 11 North Coast Athletic Conference championships.  Additionally, the biology major has broken NCAA national records in the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 400 free relay.

In April she became Denison's 43rd NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship award winner and was one of five recipients of the prestigious Denison Presidential Medal at the annual senior awards convocation.

Justin Held named to Academic All-America squad

Senior center fielder Justin Held was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team as selected by CoSIDA.

The Hudson, Ohio native hit .385 (50-for-130) with six doubles, four triples and one home run. Held became the 54th Academic All-American selection from Denison. The senior is also the fifth DU baseball player to earn Academic All-America honors.

Sarah Ash named to Academic All-America squad

Denison senior Sarah Ash was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second-team as announced by CoSIDA.

Ash is a two-time first-team All-American in women's soccer and is a two-time Ohio College Player of the Year.  She is the 53rd Academic All-America selection from Denison and the fourth from the women's soccer program.
