Deeds Field-Piper Stadium
The 2007-08 season
marks the 85th anniversary of
Deeds Field-Piper Stadium currently serves as the home field for the Denison football, field hockey, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse and the men's and women's outdoor track and field teams.
Coach Piper, who died in
1997, joined the
Last April, ground breaking
took place to install a FieldTurf playing surface, a new eight-lane synthetic
track, new concession plaza, visiting bleachers, brick retaining wall, storage
building and four, 75-ft. light towers which will allowed night football to be
played at Denison for the first time since the early 1940s.
While night football is an
added luxury for Big Red fans, the lights and artificial surface benefits for
all outdoor sports at
The renovation has taken
what was already one of the premier settings in which to enjoy small-college athletics and improved the experience for the players and fans.

the memory of Col. Edward Deeds, Class of 1897, and his son, Charles W. Deeds,
Class of 1923.The facility was built on land given to the University by Col.
Deeds in 1917.After the original field
was dedicated in 1922, the Colonel financed the construction of the additional
stands and locker facilities.With its
numerous renovations, the stadium currently seats nearly 3,000 spectators.

in the fall of 1999, as the Deeds family’s contributions were recognized, and
former Big Red football players Andrew Deeds ’54 and U.S. Congressman Tony Hall
’64 led a ceremony which named the stadium for legendary single wing coach
