Denison cracked open a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with nine runs off seven hits while being helped by two Allegheny errors, resulting in a 12-6 victory over the Gators on Wednesday afternoon in Granville.

Six of Denison's seven hits in the pivotal sixth inning were just singles but junior designated hitter Aidan Lucas (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) delivered the biggest blow with a two-run double to the gap in right-center field, scoring Park Smith (Warren, N.J./The Pingry school) and David Holmes (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest).  Lucas finished the game 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Peter Krieger (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) was 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs while Justin Vaske (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), Kevin Teague (Fairfax Station, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) and Bill Sanders (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) also posted two-hit afternoons.

Freshman McCavitt Carter (Hanovertown, Ohio/United Local) got the start and pitched five strong innings allowing just four hits, and one earned run.  Tyler Nicholson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) allowed two runs in the sixth inning but would pick up the victory as the pitcher of record during Denison's break-out bottom of the sixth inning.

The loss was charged to Allegheny's David Strawser whose record drops to 4-5.  Gator first baseman Matt Stahl was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Allegheny.

The win moves Denison's record back to .500 at 19-19.  Allegheny's record falls to 22-16.  The Big Red will draw the curtain on their 2009 season this Sunday (May 3) when they host Penn St.-Behrend in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
