Baseball: Denison to Host Heidelberg at Great American Ballpark

Date: April 1, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE

The burgeoning relationship between the Denison University baseball program and major league baseball continues to grow stronger. One year after playing a regular season game at Cleveland's Jacobs Field, interim head coach Justin Dedman is pleased to announce that the Big Red will host Heidelberg College on Thursday, April 10 at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark.

The single, nine-inning game will begin at 1 p.m. in the four-year old home of the Cincinnati Reds. The opportunity to play on the grand stage is one Dedman and his team cherishes.

"This is just an outstanding showcase for Denison baseball," noted Dedman. "Our student-athletes have had some wonderful opportunities to compete at some of the top baseball facilities in the country over the last five years. To have the opportunity to host a game at Great American Ballpark really is the icing on the cake."

Tickets for the game are available to alumni and students free of charge.  Alums should contact the Denison alumni office at 1-877-336-8648 (option 4) or they can register online at www.denison.edu/alumni.  Tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those attending the game will be seated in Great American Ballpark's Diamond Seats directly behind home plate.

In addition to last year's game at Cleveland's Jacobs Field, the Denison baseball team has had the opportunity to play three games at the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Big Red is currently 14-6 and tied for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division with a 6-2 record.  They will travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a critical four-game series with Wabash College beginning on Saturday (April 5) and continuing through Sunday (April 6).
