Baseball: Denison splits with Haverford

JD Wyborny went the distance in Denison's 6-1 win over Haverford.

The Big Red baseball team suffered a 10-5 extra-inning loss in game one to Haverford College but rallied for a 6-1 victory in game two of their doubleheader in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Monday.

Senior starter JD Wyborny (Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista) fired a his second complete game victory in as many starts to lead the Big Red to the five-run win.  He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out five.  Game one starter Park Smith (Warren, N.J./The Pingry School) was 2-for-4 with a double and Justin Held (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was 3-for-4.  Over the course of the two games played it was Held who had the biggest offensive day for Denison.  The junior second baseman reached base in all 10 of his plate appearances.

In game one Smith went six innings in the start and allowed four runs off just five hits.  He left with the lead but Haverford would tie the game and go on to put five runs on the board in the 10th inning to lock up the win. 

DU will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Wilmington College at 2 p.m.
