Location: GRANVILLE

Denison scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead and would add a pair of runs in the eighth completing a 8-4 victory over visiting Muskingum College on Wednesday night at Big Red Field.

The game marked the 2008 home opener for the Denison squad that entered the game with an 11-4 record to open the year.  Both teams utilized their pitching staffs to full capacity as 12 pitching changes were made between the two squads.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the sixth, Denison's Aidan Lucas (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) led off the inning with a single to right-center field.  Tony Christopher (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) followed with a base hit to left moving Lucas to second and Peter Krieger (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) followed with an RBI double to right field.  A Dave McGinnis (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) ground out would plate Christopher and Zach Huttie (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) would clear the bases with a one out base hit to left.

DU tack on two more runs in the eighth off a two-RBI single by McGinnis.

Lucas remained red-hot at the plate.  The sophomore was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and raised his season batting average to .512.  Over the last five games Lucas is 12-for-19 (.632) with seven runs scored and 10 RBIs.

Helping Lucas out on this night was McGinnis who was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.  Huttie would also drive in two runs while going 2-for-3.

Freshman Bobby Giarratani (Winthrop, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) earned the win after pitching a scoreless sixth inning.  Mike Hundley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), JD Wyborny (Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista) and Lucas worked the final three innings, successfully holding the lead for the Big Red.

Denison improves to 12-4 on the year which is their best start to a season through 16 games since the 2004 Big Red team began that year with a 13-3 record.
