JD Wyborny turned in a complete game victory in game 2 vs. Ohio Wesleyan, saving the Big Red from elimination and forcing a decisive third game on Friday in Granville.
JD Wyborny turned a masterful complete game victory in game two of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship series, forcing a decisive game three at 6 p.m. from Big Red Field in Granville. Ohio Wesleyan took the opener, 5-2 and Denison bounced back in the second game for a 4-2 victory.
Wyborny scattered 10 hits over his nine innings of work. He squeezed out of a second-inning bases-loaded jam by inducing a foul-out to the catcher, a strike out and a line-out to center field.
After an RBI sacrifice fly by Denison's Andy Johnson put the first run on the board for the Big Red, the Bishops countered with a Brent Wilkins RBI single in the bottom of the third, tying the game at one.
With one out in the third sophomore Park Smith blasted a solo home run to left-center field, giving Denison a 2-1 lead. Alex Horn would add DU's third run of the game in the fourth inning after an RBI double to left.
With two outs and a runner on second bases, Ohio Wesleyan's Jerrell Johnson lined an RBI single through the left side of the infield getting the Bishops back within one run at 3-2.
A Danny Pritz single to center would score Kevin Teague in the eighth and that two-run cushion would be enough for Wyborny to pitch Denison into game three.
In the opening game the Big Red got another strong start from senior James Clear who went the distance and allowed just three earned runs off 11 hits. His counterpart, Bishop starter Sean Speed, was just a touch better as he picked up his seventh win of the season in a complete game, eight-hit effort.
AJ Dote was 5-for-8 with in the two games and Joey McDaniel posted five hits in 10 at bat's for the Bishops. Denison was led by Horn who was 4-for-6 with two RBIs.
