Baseball: Otterbein splits season series with Big Red
Date: April 28, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE
Otterbein pounded out 17 hits and got a strong pitching performance from starter Zach McGrain and reliever Alex Hayes and that was enough to stop the Denison Big Red in their final regular season game, 10-5.
Otterbein scored three runs in the top of the third and held a 9-2 lead after their half of the seventh inning. In the home half of the seventh the Big Red scored three runs thanks to a two-run double by Park Smith (Warren, N.J./The Pingry School) and a RBI single by Tim LaBolt (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Twp.).
Smith led with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Kevin Teague (Fairfax Station, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Danny Pritz (Wilmett, Ill./New Trier) also added two hits apiece.
JD Wyborny (Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista) was charged with the loss after allowing nine hits and four earned runs in six innings. McGraine improved to 5-0 for Otterbein and Hayes earned his first save of the season.
The Cardinals improve to 23-11 while Denison falls to 24-16. The Big Red will host Kenyon College on Saturday (May 3) in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
