Baseball: Wyborny Pitches Denison Past Rhodes

JD Wyborny fired a complete game two-hitter in Denison's 3-1 win over Rhodes on Saturday.

Senior JD Wyborny (Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista) fired a complete game, two-hitter to lead the Big Red to a 3-1 victory over Rhodes College on Saturday night in Millington, Tenn.

Wyborny allowed only a single in the first inning and a double in the fifth inning.  The 6'1" right hander struck out 11 batters and walked only two in nine innings of work.  Junior Justin Held (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) led Denison at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.  Park Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Alex Horn (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.

Denison had seven hits and commited one error while Rhodes finished with four errors and two hits.  

In the morning the Big Red dropped their season opener to Franklin College by a final of 11-7.  Franklin plated eight runs in the sixth inning to complete the come from behind win.

James Clear (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched well in the loss, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out 11.  Tim LaBolt (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Horn also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.  

Denison will face North Park on Sunday in Tennessee before returning to Granville.
