Senior pitcher James Clear (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched eight innings and allowed just one earned run as the Big Red defeated Wilmington College 9-2 on Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Clear allowed eight hits in his eight innings of work and did not walk a batter while striking out three. Freshman Freddy Marino (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) pitched the final inning for DU and allowed one hit.
Sophomore catcher Alex Horn (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) raised his season batting average to .500 (9-for-18) after a 3-for-3, four-RBI day at the plate.
Justin Held (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Park Smith (Warren, N.J./The Pingry School) both went 2-for-5 and freshman Kevin Teague (Fairfax Station, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) blasted his first career home run while going 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Denison improves to 5-2 on the year and will resume play on Thursday (March 13) against Benedictine at 10 a.m.
