Two Named to ESPN The Magazine Baseball Academic All-District Teams

Denison University junior pitcher James Clear (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and sophomore outfielder Justin Held (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District, second-team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (May 10).

Clear led the team with a 5-2 record in 10 starts for the Big Red. He finished the year with a 4.48 ERA and struck out 45 batters in 60.1 innings pitched. A biomechanics major, Clear holds a 3.76 grade point average and is the Vice President of Denison's Student Athlete Advisory Council and is a member of Denison's August Orientation group. He has a career record of 9-5 and has four career saves.

In his first season with the Big Red, Held led the team in hitting with a .400 batting average and a .615 slugging percentage. He scored 36 runs, had eight doubles, six triples and three home runs while driving in 26. He posted three, four-hit games and was the team leader with 17 multi-hit games. He is currently eighth in the NCAC in batting average, second in total hits and is tied for the league lead in triples.

It recognizes 816 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
