Larry Farmer scored 10 points and had nine rebounds against Allegheny.

George Raftis scored 25 points and Allegheny's Donte Briscoe knocked down the game-winning free throw with 1.2 seconds left as the Gators rallied for a 64-63 victory over Denison on Saturday afternoon in Granville.

In a game that was plagued with turnovers from the start, a costly turnover by the Big Red would play a major role in the outcome of today's North Coast Athletic Conference opener.  With Denison leading 63-61 with just under one minute remaining, the Big Red would end up settling for a 3-point attempt by Josh Leuchtag (Houston, Texas/Lamar) that was off the mark.  Allegheny secured the rebound and after a time out, Denison's Caleb McFerren (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) would be called for a foul on Gator guard Charlie Jaicks.

With 5.7 seconds left Jaicks made both free throws to tie the game at 63-63.  After another time out by the Gators, Denison attempted an inbound pass that was tipped and controlled by Allegheny who found Briscoe under the basket.  Denison's Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) was whistled for a foul on Briscoe and amidst the chaos of the final possession there was a malfunction with the game clock.  Throughout the final possession no time ran off the clock and it would be determined by the officials that the foul occurred with 1.2 seconds remaining, sending Briscoe to the line where he calmly knocked down one of two free throws to ice the victory.

The game saw 17 lead changes and nine tie game situation.  The two teams also combined for 40 turnovers and 43 fouls which made it difficult for either team to sustain any momentum.  Raftis was the difference maker down low for the Gators as he connected on 9-o-12 shots from the field and 7-of-12 from the line for his game-high 25 points.  He also led Allegheny with eight rebounds.  Junior guard Craig Devinney knocked down 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 15 points.

Denison was led in scoring by Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and Leuchtag who each scored 10 points.  Farmer also posted a game-high nine rebounds in 25 minutes.  Luther and Mike Garabedian (La Grange, Ill./Nazareth Academy) chipped in nine points for the Big Red.

Denison shot 42 percent as a team but outrebounded Allegheny 38-25.  The Gators hit 47 percent of their field goal attempts but were just 57 percent from the free throw line.

Allegheny improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC with the victory.  Denison falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.  DU will return to the court on Wednesday (Dec. 10) when they travel to Springfield for a 7:30 p.m. match-up with Wittenberg.
