The Lords of Kenyon College picked up their third North Coast Athletic Conference win with a 76-67 victory over the Denison Big Red on Wednesday night in Gambier, Ohio.
After falling into an early four-point first-half hole, the Big Red went on a 15-4 run to take a 17-10 advantage with 14:44 left in the opening half. Kenyon tied the game at 23-23 with a 13-6 spurt over a seven minute span. The two squads played the rest of the half tight with the Lords owning a 36-33 lead at the intermission.
Senior Pat Sullivan (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) opened the second frame with a layup to trim the deficit to one, but 10 unanswered tallies by Kenyon opened their lead back up to double digits. DU responded with a 12-0 run of their own to grab a one-point advantage (47-46) half way through the second. The Lords were able to regain a double-digit lead (64-53), but a 13-7 run trimmed the gap to five points with 38 ticks left in regulation. However, Kenyon knocked down their free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Sullivan finished the night with a season-high 16 points and five rebounds. First-year Mike Garabedian (La Grange, Ill./Nazareth Academy) notched a career-high 15 tallies while junior Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) scored 11 points.
