Men's Basketball: DU completes season sweep of Earlham

Chris Eberst was red-hot from 3-point range in Denison's seven-point win over Earlham on Wednesday.

Date: February 20, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE

Chris Eberst (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) scored 21 points off seven 3-point field goals as the Denison Big Red held off Earlham College for a 69-61 victory in the second half of an North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday night from Livingston Gymnasium.

Eberst, who's previous career-high for 3-point field goals in a game was five (done twice), went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc while quelling a number of potential Earlham runs down the stretch with his long distance sharpshooting.  Eberst's 21 points was a career high and his seven triples were just one off the Denison single-game record set by Tony Price in  the 2000-01 campaign.

Denison led 34-27 at the half after shooting 48 percent from the field while holding the NCAC's leading scorer, Tristan Gregory, to just four points in the opening 20 minutes of play.

In the second half DU outscored Earlham 35-34 and shot 58 percent from the field to earn their third victory of the season.  Helping Eberst in the scoring department was sophomore Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) who scored 12 points and added seven rebounds in his 30 minutes.  Junior center Jeremy Stuhlfauth (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) played one of his most complete games of the season.  The 6'7" post scored 10 points off 5-for-9 shooting performance while grabbing five rebounds and dishing five assists.

Sophomore Caleb McFerren (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) had the duty of guarding Gregory all night and he held the senior, who entered the night needing 26 points to reach the 1,000 point milestone, to six points which was 13.5 ppg under his season average.  McFerren scored eight points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in 32 minutes.

Earlham was led by Terrel Brown who scored 14 points.  Mark Yost came off the bech to score 13 points.  Yost and Brown combined to go 7-for-13 from 3-point range.

Denison will close out their regular season on Saturday (Feb. 23) against Wabash College at 4 p.m.
