Men's Basketball: Oberlin squeaks out win over Big Red

Denison fought back from a 14-point second half deficit, trimming Oberlin's lead to as few as three points with under a minute to play but the Yeomen managed to hold of the Big Red for a 75-70 victory at Philips Gym.
The Big Red trailed by eight at halftime and following a Brian Elder (Granville, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) 3-pointer with 15:48 to play they got that lead down to six points. Oberlin proceeded to push their lead out to as much as 14 points over the next five minutes of play but Denison wouldn't go away. Down nine with 1:42 left Chris Eberst (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) canned his fourth 3-pointer of the game to get DU back within six at 73-67. After an Oberlin turnover Denison missed two straight treys but got offensive rebounds on both resulting in a Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) 3-pointer with 57 seconds left. Deinson had a chance to get within one or tied the game after another Oberlin miss but an inside attempt by Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) with 15 seconds left was off the mark. The Yeomen secured possession and knocked down a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to ice the win.
Five players scored in double-figures for Denison, led by Pat Sullivan's (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) 17 points. Eberst added a season-high 16 points while going 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. Luther chipped in 12 points in 32 minutes while Farmer and Elder both finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds between the both of them.
Oberlin was led by Mike Loll and Jordan Beard's 19 point efforts. Denison shot 41 percent from the field and were 16-for-20 from the free throw line. Oberlin finished 49 percent from the field and were 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.
