Dee Salukombo talks things over with some of his fellow competitors on Friday at the All-Ohio Championship. He placed 9th out of 280 total runners.
Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and Grant Russo (Medina, Ohio/Medina) supplied top-five individual performances, helping the Denison men's cross country team to a fourth place finish in the Division III standings of the 2008 All-Ohio Cross Country Championship from Methodist Theologial School in Delaware, Ohio.
Salukombo covered the 8K course in 25:53.1 to end up as the runner-up in the Division III standings. In the overall standings, Salukombo's time was good enough to place him ninth overall out of 280 runners. It was the best individual performance by a Denison male runner at the All-Ohio Championship since Joe Dunham placed sixth overall in 1999.
Hot on Salukombo's heels was Russo who finished in 26:18.2 and landed in fourth place in the D-III standings and 23rd overall. Finishing third for Denison was senior Skyler Mosenthal (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) who crossed in 27:01.1 and finished 15th. Junior Adam Tewahade (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) was fourth in 27:43.5 and senior Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) rounded out the top-five scoring runners for DU with a time of 28:06.4.
Case Western Reserve won the Division III team title with 52 points. They were followed by Mount Union (87) and Ohio Northern (93). Case's Dominic Smith was the individual D-III champ with a time of 25:47.5.
DU will return to action next Friday (Oct. 17) when they compete at the Wilmington Fall Invitational.
