Men's Cross Country: Salukombo 5 for 5 in 2009

Dee Salukombo won for the fifth time in as many races on Saturday at Gettysburg.

The field of runners continue to grow yet the final result remains the same.  For the fifth time in as many chances in 2009, sophomore sensation Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) has taken first-place at a men's cross country meet.

Today, Salukombo out ran a field of 316 runners at the Gettysburg Invitational.  He covered the 6K course in 26:19.17, six seconds in front of second-place Paul Thistle of Susquehanna College. 

Thanks to Salukombo's victory, Denison placed eighth out of 25 teams with 125 total points.  Finishing second for DU was Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) who placed 38th with a time of 27:42.27.  Dan Doggett (Byfield, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) followed in 54th place in 28:04.74 and teammate Dan Rafferty (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) was right behind in 57th place with a time of 28:08.58.

This meet was the final warm-up for the Big Red before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 31 in Delaware, Ohio.  Denison placed second as a team last year when the meet was hosted by Oberlin College.
