Dee Salukombo

The Denison men's cross country team opened the 2009 campaign on Tuesday evening at a triangular event with Ohio Wesleyan University hosted by Kenyon College.  Ten members of the Big Red squad competed against the two North Coast Athletic Conference rivals in the unscored meet.

Like he did a year ago, sophomore Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) came away with the victory in the season-opening event.  The 2008 NCAC Newcomer of the Year finished the race in a time of 16:08, four seconds faster then runner-up Matt Davis of Kenyon.

Rookie Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and sophomore Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) finished the race in sixth and seventh, respectively.  Kosanovich crossed the line at 16:28, while Chappars finished the event in 16:33.

The Big Red return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they take part in the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.  Race time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
