Football: Homyk earns NCAC Defensive Player of the Week honor

After an impressive performance in Denison's 21-7 victory over Kenyon College, junior defensive back Drew Homyk (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) was recognized as the North Coast Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Making his first career start at cornerback, Homyk recorded eight stops and two interceptions including a key fourth quarter pick in the endzone. The junior currently leads the team in both solo (35) and total (59) tackles, and pass breakups with six. The Chicago, Ill. native also ranks second on the team in interceptions with four. Drew is tied for second in the conference in passes defended with 1.11 per game and his 6.6 tackles per contest rank him 11th in the league.

The Big Red is 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in the NCAC heading into the final week of the season. Denison will close out the 2008 campaign this Saturday (Nov. 15) when they travel to Earlham College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
