Jim Minor posted 10 solo tackles to lead the Big Red against Wittenberg.

Andrew Durbin passed for 189 yards, ran for two scores and hooked up with Patrick Williams for a 74-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the game, helping Wittenberg to a 23-0 victory over the Denison Big Red on Dave Maurer Day in Springfield, Ohio.

Despite the big play from Durbin to Williams, Denison trailed by only 10 points after two quarters of play.  In  the second half the Wittenberg defense managed to keep the Big Red out of any extended drives and a 23-yard touchdown run by Durbin along with 3-yard plunge in the fourth quarter would seal up the victory for the Tigers.

Denison's top-ranked rushing offense was held in check as Jon Berg (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the way with 40 yards off 12 carries.  Nick Krempasky (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) added 30 yards off eight rushes.  Senior quarterback Mike Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) was 10-of-25 in the passing department for 116 yards.  His favorite targets were seniors Peter Jarowey (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and Nick Thompson (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) who both caught three passes.

The Wittenberg offense rushed for 116 yards and passed for 221 yards while committing three turnovers.  Williams led the Tigers with seven receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown.

Defensivley Jim Minor (Washington, Pa./Trinity) had one of the best games of his four-year career.  The linebacker posted 10 tackles, all solo, and led the team with two quarterback sacks.  He was followed by senior Bert Bathiany (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) who had eight tackles and one interception.  In addition, senior linebacker Joe Ulrey (Marengo, Ohio/Sparta Highland) surpassed the 200 career tackle milestone thanks to his five tackle effort.

Denison will return home next Saturday (Nov. 8) when they host Kenyon College at 1 p.m.
